Oak View Group names Scott Johnson as General Manager of Greensboro Coliseum Complex and Tanger Center
Oak View Group, the new operator of the Greensboro Coliseum Complex and the Steven Tanger Center for the Performing Arts, today named industry veteran Scott Johnson, most recently the Complex’s Deputy Director, as General Manager of the Complex, effectively immediately.
Last March, following an extensive procurement process and a unanimous vote by the Greensboro City Council, the City of Greensboro awarded private management and booking services contracts to Oak View Group with a start date of July 1. OVG Hospitality already provides catering and concession services across all properties.
Johnson, a 33-year employee at the Greensboro Coliseum Complex, most recently managed all aspects of the venue’s daily operations and bookings of the Complex’s nine venues, the largest being the renowned 22,000-seat Greensboro Coliseum, which boasts a storied history of hosting prestigious sporting events and legendary recording artists. The Complex also includes the 167,000-square-foot Special Events Center, White Oak Amphitheatre, Piedmont Hall, the Novant Health Fieldhouse, Greensboro Aquatic Center, The Terrace, ACC Hall of Champions, and the 300-seat Odeon Theatre. Johnson has also overseen booking and event operations at the Tanger Center since the downtown Greensboro venue’s grand opening in 2021.
Johnson joined the Complex as Assistant Box Office Manager/Special Projects Manager in 1991 and also served as Event Services Manager and Director of Booking & Event Services prior to being named Deputy Director in 2000.
“We are thrilled that Scott is joining OVG to lead our day-to-day efforts in Greensboro,” said Greg O’Dell, Oak View Group President of Venue Management. “Scott is well respected within the industry and synonymous with the success of these properties. As we welcome these venues into Oak View Group, his leadership will play a crucial role as we look to create new and exciting opportunities for the region to gather, meet, and experience live entertainment in these prestigious properties.”
The Wake Forest University alum is a member of the Greensboro Sports Council and Greensboro Rotary and plays a key role on the Greensboro Sports Foundation’s local organizing committee and its efforts in support of Coliseum Complex events.
